General School Information

The Academic School Year in Portugal usually starts in the middle of September and finishes by the end of June of the following year.

In the Escola Básica da Alegria the school terms are currently divided in trimesters, with school holidays following the main Portuguese festivities: Christmas, Carnival and Easter.

The school building has three levels, with two entrances and twelve rooms.

On the ground floor there are the common areas to EB1 and Pre-School (JI): canteen, kitchen, gym with changing room, entrances and playground. The gym is equipped with basic suitable equipment for sports.

On the 1st floor runs the Pre-School, with two rooms, one for the Teaching Component and the other for Extra-Activities and Family Support Activities. 

On the 2nd floor there are the remaining EB rooms. The classrooms are equipped with blackboards, double tables, individual chairs and in three rooms there are interactive whiteboards.

The internal circulation spaces are made up of stairs from the ground floor to the 2nd floor. One of the staircases is equipped with an elevator suitable for children with physical disabilities.

In order to offer equal access to the educational curriculum, and to ensure the effective integration of students into the national education system, children who don't speak Portuguese as their native language may have a specific adapted curriculum, that includes the discipline "Português Língua Não Materna".

The school in articulation with the parents or guardians provides educative paths that facilitate access to the curriculum, through supportive and inclusive learning assistance.

The school provides lunch and a snack to the children. The meals provided by Escola da Alegria are diverse, nutritious and balanced to ensure that students receive the necessary nutrients to grow and develop.  There is always an option available for vegetarians.
